Head injuries are serious business that can lead to paralysis and death, but on rare occasions, they can tap into remote portions of the brain and unleash strange and amazing effects, from talents to compulsions. Every second of every day our brains are processing an unbelievable amount of data. You might be familiar with the tasks medical assistants could be expected to perform — both clinical and administrative — but do you know what they can’t do? Generally speaking, medical assistants are prohibited from examining, diagnosing, providing medical advice to or treating patients. They do no practice medicine and thus cannot make assessments or perform any sort of decision making when it comes to medical care. These responsibilities fall within the scope of physician assistants, which are often confused with medical assistants.

They’re called “pumping parties,” but they’re nothing to celebrate. These gatherings take a page from the Tupperware party mold, with a group of people gathering in a lighthearted residential get-together in which attendees pay for a product or service. But instead of cake plates and Jell-O molds, the person hosting a pumping party sells bootleg plastic surgery — specifically, injections of silicone…or something much worse. Participants in these illegal gatherings have, knowingly or not, had their injections mixed with material such as Super Glue, motor oil and even concrete.
