They’re called “pumping parties,” but they’re nothing to celebrate. These gatherings take a page from the Tupperware party mold, with a group of people gathering in a lighthearted residential get-together in which attendees pay for a product or service. But instead of cake plates and Jell-O molds, the person hosting a pumping party sells bootleg plastic surgery — specifically, injections of silicone…or something much worse. Participants in these illegal gatherings have, knowingly or not, had their injections mixed with material such as Super Glue, motor oil and even concrete.

It goes without saying that the results have not been pretty. Even when performed “correctly” (i.e., minimal adverse reactions), the end product can be a grotesque enlargement of the injected area — typically a female’s hips, butt or breasts. Witness exhibit A: South Florida transgender black market “nurse” Oneal Ron Morris‘ apparent attempts to increate her own backside, resulting in a cartoonishly disproportioned figure:

Her work on other patients, however, didn’t go even this well; she was arrested in 2012 for making several people sick after injecting them with caulk, cement, Super Glue, mineral oil and Fix-A-Flat tire inflator solution. One, 31-year-old Shatarka Nuby, paid Morris to inject her 10 times over the course of four years and ended up dying from “massive systemic silicone migration.” Morris was charged with manslaughter.

In the same year, Philadelphia’s Padge Victoria Windslowe was charged with third-degree murder for the death of 20-year-old Claudia Aderotimi, a British “medical tourist” who came to the US for the butt injections that cost her her life when the silicone traveled up into her lungs, blocking her ability to breathe. Meanwhile, in New Jersey, Kasia Rivera was arrested for manslaughter after reportedly injecting 22-year-old Justin Street’s penis with silicone, leading to his death from a “silicone embolism” (i.e., blockage).

One “lucky” victim who didn’t die from her botched procedure is Los Angeles resident Apryl Michelle Brown, who was never happy with the size of her rear end and opted for a black market silicone butt injection. Unfortunately for her, she suffered an allergic reaction that resulted in the amputation not only her hands and feet, but also, ironically, her buttocks.

Typically, perpetrators of these crimes have no medical training, and even if they did, liquid silicone is not approved for cosmetic injections by any medical authority. It’s gained popularity in recent years as a cheap alternative to plastic surgery and is in especially high demand from exotic dancers and members of the transgender community looking to enhance their figures, but the best rule of thumb for anyone considering cosmetic enhancement is to use common sense and stick with professionals with good reputations. No booty is worth your life.
